My intention with my art is to visualize the mind and the multiple layers upon layers of experiences that make up who we are. I am interested in the struggle between consciousness and what lies underneath. That story is told with layers of vibrant color and elements of street landscape.
Feeling trapped in church as a young boy, I was always fascinated with the artwork. Specifically, “the Stations of the Cross” (the steps leading to Jesus being crucified). They were usually abstract in nature, sometimes wood carvings or stained glass – always revealing the psychology of the gruesome story. That, was my introduction to art.
I treat the raw canvas more as a sponge that absorbs the paint and allows me to build pieces with layers upon layers of washes, stains and marks using a variety of media including paint, ink, dirt, oil, paper and wax.
My artwork is part of private collections in New York, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Fransisco, Miami, Honolulu and Austria.
I was born and raised in Southern California. I hold a Bachelor’s of Arts in Design from Cal State University, Northridge and run my own Graphic Design business, focusing on entertainment, higher learning and non-profits. DigitaLava.com
